We are delighted to have taken part in the Sheffield Schools Skipathon Week 2023 with over 50 Sheffield schools and an incredible 15,000 children taking part. The project is about fun physical activity with a motto of ‘fitness through fun for everyone’. The aim is to provide all children with a positive experience of skipping with Mr Tee delivering fun skipping workshops during PE with the hope they will take what they have learnt home with them and continue to hone their skills with the family. In addition, our new Year 6 Sports Leaders are having running practice workshops at lunchtimes which have been very popular.
This week, our Year 5 children have had their final session with the Sheffield Hatters basketball players, learning important messages around bullying and self esteem.
The local cluster Sports Hall Athletics competition this year was even more competitive with the addition of Wharncliffe Side and this made for an exciting evening of sport. The events include individual and relay races alongside field events such as the speed bounce, long jump, target throw and basketball throw. Again, this year, SJS had two teams with the winning team progressing through to the Links Final early December.
Over the last 3 weeks, we have had the opportunity in collaboration with the Sheffield Hatters to have professional athletes into school and lead our Year 5 children in a curriculum enrichment programme.
On a beautiful Saturday morning in Bradfield, the Stocky Cross-Country team were in action for Race 3 of the season.
This new school year, in addition to the Year 6 Sports Leaders, the school have further developed our lunchtime provision to be more active and provide lots of opportunities for children to get out of breath, while developing their physical and social skills.
