This new school year, in addition to the Year 6 Sports Leaders, the school have further developed our lunchtime provision to be more active and provide lots of opportunities for children to get out of breath, while developing their physical and social skills.
Our Year 6 boys' football team was in action competing in the ESFA Cup competition against neighbouring schools, Deepcar, Grenoside and Oughtibridge. Sportsmanship was our key focus, playing within the rules with respect to opponents and officials and being gracious in both victory and defeat. Our team played tough but applied all of these qualities in their game play which was pleasing to see.
Race 2 of the cross-country season took place this weekend at Bolehills, which is one of the shortest yet toughest of all the courses.
Children love to play and be active. To benefit their health, children over 5 years of age should be physically active for at least 60 minutes every day. It doesn’t need to be a structured sport, anything that gets them up and moving will help.
Fundamental Movement skills (FMS) are the basic movements associated with human physical activity. These include skills such as running, jumping, throwing, skipping and hopping amongst others. Over time, as children develop, they start to sequence skills into more sophisticated movement patterns including sports specific skills.
After a false start a few weeks ago, race 1 of the new cross-country season took place this weekend at a very busy Concord Park.
